About

Hi, I'm Nicole Ishida.  I founded Naia Wood Designs in 2011 with the main goal of providing high quality wood gifts made in the USA.  I salvage Hawaiian Koa wood from wood shops here in Honolulu and purchase scraps from mills on the Big Island. My goal is to use locally sourced materials and minimize waste as much as possible.  My shop is in my home and we use photovoltaic panels to power our home and shop.  

I'm an Architectural Designer turned Architectural Model Builder/wood worker. Using a laser cutter to cut out model parts, I realized there were so many possibilities with this medium. I love to design and build with wood, so I am excited to pursue these passions full time in a purely artistic way. 

When you live on an island, the need to protect the environment around you is glaringly apparent. Working from home, I am able to spend less time driving/commuting and more time growing my own food and being with my family.  We're lucky to have a little boy and another babe on the way!  Thank you for your support and interest in our business.
